Nicola Busby

Nicola is a business change consultant, author and trainer. She has extensive experience in providing practical support and training in the public, private and non-profit sectors in the UK. She lectures on change management and recently published ‘The Shape of Change’ – a book with a series of example change initiatives in the public, private and non-profit sector which brings the challenges and paradoxes of managing organisational change to life.

Professional Background

Six years’ study at the Royal Academy of Music and an early career as a classical musician and music teacher ended when Nicola was awarded a scholarship to study for a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Westminster. She graduated with Distinction and since then has worked with many major UK institutions, from The Houses of Parliament to Penguin Random House and the Natural History Museum, supporting them through various organisational change challenges. She focuses solely on the ‘people-side’ of change, with activities ranging from developing the change capability of senior leaders through advising line managers how to manage teams through change, to reducing resistance and raising enthusiasm from affected users. Nicola is the lead APMG Change Management trainer for SPOCE, and also mentors many business change managers at the beginning of their careers. She blogs at Business Change Enthusiasts.

Personal Profile

Nicola lives in North London with her partner, Derek, and is kept busy by her large extended family. Leisure time finds her sailing off the Essex coast in summer, reading by her fire in winter and travelling extensively whenever she can persuade Derek, a stepson, or a niece or nephew to accompany her. Recent trips have included driving through the Canadian Rockies, spending Christmas day by the Indian Ocean and a detailed exploration of roman ruins (and present day Italian cuisine!) in Rome.
